INSPECTOR DISCIPLINE
Examinations for all inspector disciplines may cover the application of industry standards, use photographs and samples from industry; they may also include questions on general technical matters relevant to the matter on which the candidate is being examined.
When answering questions relating to an industry standard, candidates shall reference a version of the standard that was registered on CBIP website within three months of the date of examination.
Candidates are responsible for providing their reference standards/codes required for open book examinations.
Where there is more than one examination module for a certificate of competence candidates should, where possible, complete them in the sequence indicated in the SOP.
NON DESTRUCTIVE TESTING
Examination for NDT methods shall consist of three parts
- General Theory
- Specific Theory
- Practical
Each part is considered separate, and if a fail mark is given in one part the candidate may resit only that part twice more to achieve the pass. If the paper is failed three times, candidates must resit all papers.
General paper
Consists of 40 multi choice questions in a closed book exam, on the general theory of the method
Specific paper
Consists of 20 multi-choice and 10 short answer questions which may be answered with the aid of the relevant standards and specifications.
Practical paper
Consists of a selection of samples to be tested and reported on. Level 1 candidates will be given written instructions on the test technique and will report their findings on a pro-forma worksheet.
Level 2 candidates will be given broad guidelines (such as a standard) to follow when performing the test, and will be required to produce a report on blank paper.
Level 2 candidates will also be required to write a work instruction for a level 1 on a testing task.
EXTENSION OF EXAMINATION PERIOD
Candidates may apply in writing to CBIP for a prolongation of this period.Include in the application:
- Summary of work experience and employment over the period
- Justification for a prologation
Applications for prolongation will be considered by the Application & Approval Committee.
Candidates who do not successfully complete all examination modules for a certificate of competence within twenty-four months must, unless an extension of time is granted by CBIP, re-sit all examination modules for that particular certificate of competence.
APPLICATION FOR EXAMINATION OR RE-EXAMINATION
Applications for examination or re-examination should be made on the “Application for Certification” form.
Candidates should ensure that they tick the box under Application Details, indicating they are applying for a re-sit
PASS MARK
The minimum pass mark required for an examination module is 70%
NOTIFICATION OF EXAMINATION RESULTS
Examination results will be sent to candidates prior to final assessment for certification. Receipt of exam results is NOT a Certificate of Competency.
FAILURE TO PASS EXAMINATIONS
Candidates who fail an examination may apply to CBIP to be re-examined.
Candidates may resit an examination and any other modules required for the Certificate of competence they are seeking in future exam rounds.
